Once upon a time…
…twins were born into a great burden.
As they grew their challenge became more and more difficult. They were striped of their powers, their foreskin violently removed, their sexual potency and path stolen, hidden from view, their most precious rooms invaded, ransacked, occupied. They were born slaves in their own kingdom.
One of the twins used to hear a faint whisper of a name. ”Broadheart” said the distant voice. Every now and then a fog would clear, and he would catch a glimpse of the truth, the life of a Prince. In a dream he saw a Dark Lord pouring potion down his throat, casting an evil spell on him. ”You shall never see the Truth!” spoke the the evil one. And with a hiss, Beauty slipped behind his eyes and out of reach.
Over the years the boys grew into peasants living peasant lives. The true Princes of the Golden Kingdom were lost fairytales drunk farmers ranted about on festival nights. One day, out of despair, they turned on each other. The slow poison of the Dark Lord finally reaching the heart, culminating in a deep sense of betrayal.
Wounded and bleeding, Broadheart stumbled behind the tavern to take his last breath. There he saw a fair maiden at the edge of the forest, beckoning him forward. She called him to her, her gesture familiar, giving him strength. She slipped past the veil and into the trees. He followed beyond and soon arrived to see her in a brilliant, sun-filled clearing. she looked up to catch the Light pouring down on her. Broadheart reached for her and LO! the fair maiden was stricken down by the Dark Lord! He was hideous, and holding the broken and violated form of the young girl. He held broken Love, desecrated in his mangled claws. ”Slay the dragon and Love and Truth will be yours” said the Dark Lord.
Broadheart suddenly felt the grass between his toes… felt his heart beating it’s last rhythm. He finally saw, and fell to his knees. His chest cracked open and he was given a choice. He died. And with him died the Dark Lord, the fair maiden, his twin brother, the Golden Kingdom, and the myth of Broadheart… it all vanished.
He woke up in his bed, a regular guy, free at last.
